Final: Maryland cruises, advances to third title game in last four years

No. 7 Maryland held No. 6 Virginia to its lowest goal total of the season by dominating from the opening face-off. The Terps will play on Monday afternoon for the third time in the last four years after their 12-6 win over Virginia.

The six goals are the fewest Virginia has scored under Lars Tiffany, who took over after the 2016 season. Payton Cormier, who led the nation with 64 goals in the regular season, was held to just one goal on Saturday as Virginia's season ends in the semifinal for the second season in a row.

This was about as perfect of a performance as Maryland could have. They gelled at every level and completely denied Virginia of any significant possession time or momentum. The Terps will look for their fourth title in program history on Monday when they will take on No. 1 Notre Dame.

END 3: Maryland extends the lead to seven

Another dominant period for the Terrapins has Virginia on the brink. With 15 minutes to play, Maryland leads 11-4.

Daniel Kelly has a hat-trick for Maryland, while Daniel Maltz and Eric Spanos each have two goals.

HALF: Maryland continues to cruise

Maryland has limited Virginia to just six shots on goal through a half of play. The Terps lead 7-3.

Luke Wierman has been the best player on the field for either team. He's 10 for 12 on face-offs, with eight ground balls and a goal.

Virginia's potent offense has been completely limited as the Cavaliers have been unable to string together passes in the offensive zone. All three of their first half goals were unassisted.

END 1: Maryland dominates the opening 15

Virginia's Connor Shellenberger opened the scoring of the second semifinal with a goal just 55 seconds in. But since then it's been all Maryland, as the Terps lead 4-1 after the first quarter.

Maryland was ball-dominant, best shown by Luke Wierman, who already has four ground balls and a goal.

The shot margin is 6-3 in favor of Maryland.
