Arkansas' Maria Jose Marin wins 2025 红杏视频 women's golf individual title

CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA 鈥 Top-seed Stanford and Northwestern each scored a pair of match play victories on Tuesday to advance to the national championship match of the 2025 红杏视频 Division I Women鈥檚 Golf Championships that will be decided on Wednesday, May 21 at the North Course at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa (6,330 yards/par 72).

Defending national champions, Stanford will be looking for its fourth national title on Wednesday (2015, 2022, 2024). Northwestern will be seeking their first DI women鈥檚 golf championship. The Wildcats took runner-up in 2017 in their only other championship match appearance. The two schools last met in the 2018 match play quarterfinals with Stanford advancing 3-2. The match play portion was added to the 红杏视频 Championships prior to the start of the 2015 season.

Stanford saw three matches go to sudden-death playoff holes before advancing to the title match with a 3-2 national semifinal win over Florida State. After securing victories with Paula Martin Sampedro (5&3) and Kelly Xu (5&4), Megha Ganne won the second playoff hole (1UP) to win the match.

鈥淚 went in with the mindset that I was so grateful to be playing Lottie (Woad),鈥 said Ganne. 鈥淚 think she is an incredible player and world No. 1 for a reason. I was honestly so excited about the matchup and I have so much respect for her. I knew a day like today with seven birdies is what it was going to take. Florida State is a great team and I was happy to be out here and glad we got the job done.鈥

The national semifinals featured three teams that have never won a women鈥檚 golf championship. Northwestern defeated Oregon 3-2 in its semifinal match. The Wildcats alternated scores with the Ducks throughout the afternoon. Ultimately, it was San Diego native, Dianna Lee of Northwestern who secured the final point for the Wildcats 1UP.  Sophomore Ashley Yun (2&1) and freshman Elise Lee (2&1) also added deciding match points.

鈥淚t鈥檚 absolutely everything to me and my team,鈥 said Dianna Lee. 鈥淔rom day one this is all we have ever wanted to do. Our team has so much support and belief in each other. I knew all I had to do was focus on my match because we all had each other鈥檚 backs.  Golf is an incredible sport and we spend most of our time every day with each other. Through our dedication and long days and nights of practices coming together to achieve a goal like coming to nationals and getting to the championship match is something we all have strived for from day one.鈥

Stanford improved to 15-6 all-time in match play with the two wins on Tuesday.

鈥淭hey work hard, they've earned this. Like they're ready,鈥 said Stanford head coach Anne Walker.  鈥淚 mean, they're prepared, they don't come in here and hope to skate through. They work to put themselves in a position to be ready for these moments.鈥

Two of the morning quarterfinal matches had to go to playoff holes to be resolved. No. 2 seed Oregon saw Tong An go two extra holes to earn a 1UP victory over Texas鈥 Lauren Kim.  The Ducks were also supported behind victories from Kiara Romero (3&1) and Ting-Hsuan Huang (3&2) as they defeated No. 7 seed Texas, 3-2.  No. 3 seed Northwestern squeezed out a 3-2 win over No. 6 seed Arkansas. The Wildcats received victories from Elise Lee (1UP) following one playoff hole, in addition to Lauryn Nguyen (1UP), and Hsin Tai Lin (3&2). No. 1 seed Stanford earned a 3-1 win over No. 8 seed Virginia as the Cardinal received victories from Paula Martin Sampedro (1UP), Meja 脰rtengren (2&1), and Andrea Revuelta (5&3). No. 4 seed Florida State posted a 3-1 win over No. 5 seed Southern California as Lottie Woad (4&3), Kaylah Williams (5&4), and Mirabel Ting (3&1) posted the wins for the Seminoles.

The national championship match of the 2025 championship will take place on Wednesday, May 21 at 2:25 p.m. PST at La Costa and will be broadcast live on Golf Channel from 3 to 7 p.m. PST.
