The DII women's lacrosse finals: A team-by-team breakdown
Adelphi is coming into the final matchup red hot, winners of 12 in a row. The Panthers handled their business in the tournament, but it has been tight the whole way, winning their three games by a total of four goals. This is their 12th trip to the finals, and they are looking for their tenth championship.
Attack Ashley Kolomechuk, NE10 defensive player of the year Sonny Lionetti and midfielder Rita Sefransky were all named IWLCA All-Americans this past week, so the Panthers have talent at every level. Kolomechuk is in the top 20 of DII in both points (104) and goals scored (71). She is not alone, though, as the Panthers have depth in the scoring department with six players with 40 or more goals.
Tampa is also hot, coming into Salem winners of its last 10 straight. The Spartans' road to the final game was a bit less stressful, winning their three games by 12 goals. That shouldn't come as a surprise, as the Spartans are one of the most well-rounded teams in DII. They are No. 9 overall in scoring defense and No. 5 overall in scoring offense, giving them a top five scoring margin in the division. Tampa hosted Adelphi earlier this season, and the Spartans won that game 20-6.
Tampa landed three players on the IWLCA All-American First Team in attack Peyton Howell and defenders Isabella Avila and Alexa Waters. Goalkeeper Savvy Barbosa also earned All-American honors on the Third Team. Howell has the fifth-most goals in DII this year with 89, and she is seventh overall with 112 points.
Tampa vs. Adelphi, predicted
One team has its place in history set in stone. Adelphi has as many national runner-up seasons as most teams wish they had national championships. Tampa is looking to become the new power and do what no team in the South has done to date: Win a pair of national championships.
Adelphi is a very good and well-coached team, but Tampa seems to have been in control from day one of 2025. It seems like the offense and defense is simply too much for any one team to handle, and that ultimately gives the Spartans the edge.
Prediction: Tampa 17, Adelphi 12
