Texas A&M and Southern California are the top two teams in the first DI Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Rating Indexes from USTFCCCA.
The ratings index serves as rankings for the outdoor track and field season. The ratings index is objectively built using qualifying marks from the current season. With it still being early in the outdoor season, these rankings could quickly change as more athletes begin to take the track as we near championship season.
Nonetheless, let's look at the top teams as of Apr. 1, 2025.
Texas A&M and USC lead the way
For the second-straight season, Texas A&M tops the first outdoor rankings. Last year, the Aggies held the top spot for the first five weeks before ultimately finishing fifth at championships. Texas A&M will try to carry the top spot wire-to-wire with plenty of depth in 2025.
The Aggies have top-10 marks in the 200 meters, 400 meters, 400 hurdles, 1500 meters, 3,000-meter steeplechase and pole vault thus far. In total, that's 10 different athletes across six different events. The 400 meters stands out the most. That's where the Aggies have the second, fourth, fifth and 11th-best runners 鈥 none of which include star quarter-miler Auhmad Robinson.
While the Aggies may not hold on to the quantity of top 10 marks as the season progresses, this could be an early sign that Texas A&M will have plenty of numbers at the First Rounds for Outdoor Championships, which could lead to a championship push.
LOOKING AHEAD: How the first USTFCCCA rankings predict the women's champion
Southern California leads all women鈥檚 teams with its first No. 1 ranking since Week 3 of 2023. The Trojans are led by the nation鈥檚 fastest trio in the 200 meters thus far, as Madison Whyte, Jassani Carter and Samirah Moody round out the top three in the event. Christine Mallard adds to the trio with the sixth-fastest time in the 200 this year.
Whyte also leads the nation in the 400 meters as the only woman to break 51 seconds so far, while her teammate Yemi John ranks fourth in the event. Nonah Waldron has the fifth-fastest time in the 100 hurdles, adding to an impressive group of sprinters in Los Angeles.
The Trojans also have benefited from early-season success in the field events. Triple jumper Jada Foreman ranks seventh and shot putter Ashley Erasmus ranks fourth nationally in their events.

Defending champs not in the top 10
2024鈥檚 defending outdoor champions Florida (men) and Arkansas (women) aren鈥檛 in the top 10 of the first rankings of the season.
Florida is looking to become the first men鈥檚 program to four-peat outdoors since the Arkansas dynasty of the 1990s, but the Gators will have some work to do only ranking 28th to start the season. Florida has the nation鈥檚 fastest 4x4 at 3:04.30 and Leikel Cabrera Gay has the fourth-furthest throw in the javelin, but beyond those two, there are no other top-10 marks in Gainesville after the first month of the season.
However, don鈥檛 expect Florida to remain outside of the top 25 for long. Florida Relays are this week and should see plenty of Gators add to the qualifiers.

Arkansas is closer to the top 10 than the Gators, with the Razorbacks coming in at No. 12. Arkansas has the nation鈥檚 fastest 4x400 meter relay early on 鈥 and this is after a season where the Razorbacks reset the collegiate record books in the event. Rachel Glenn has already broken 55 seconds in the 400 hurdles for the fastest time in the nation while Saira Prince has the fifth-fastest time in the event. Down in the 100 hurdles, Simon Ballard has the tenth-fastest time.
The Razorbacks are still warming up for a long season, so don鈥檛 be surprised if they join the top 10 sooner rather than later.
