These SEC baseball teams are trending up — or down — ahead of the conference tournament

Florida State is new No. 1 in latest college baseball Power 10 rankings

The SEC has been the heartbeat of college baseball in recent years — the last five Men's College World Series winners have come from the conference.

And this season is panning out to be no different, with six of the top-10 teams nationally hailing from the SEC.

However, each team has taken its lumps at some point in the season and shown flaws, as every team has lost at least one series so far. With conference tournaments approaching, it's time to dive into which teams are trending up, down or staying afloat.

Florida: Up

Florida baseball

The first half of the 2025 season was rough for the Gators — the term "rugged" wouldn’t be enough to define their trials and tribulations. After getting swept by Vanderbilt at the beginning of April, Florida fell to 20-14 and shifted closer to a similar regular season finish as 2024 (28-27 record).

The disappointing series loss must’ve sparked UF to press the restart button, though, as the Gators have trended in an upward direction since.

They’ve won five straight series, are 15-4 after April 6 and have taken down the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the nation at the time. With less than a week separating them from Hoover, Florida has caught fire at the perfect time.

LSU: Up

LSU lost two weeks ago to unranked Texas A&M but drowned it out with a convincing series win over Arkansas in a top-five ranked clash. They were the first team all season to run-rule the Razorbacks.

Yet, that’s not the sole reason LSU is trending in the right direction. The Tigers' one-two punch on the mound, sophomore left-hander Kade Anderson and junior righty Anthony Eyanson, are only getting better.

Off days have become rare for the duo, even against top hitters in the country that the SEC is filled with. Anderson (124, ranked 2nd) and Eyanson (116, ranked 3rd) are in the top three nationally in strikeouts and have two complete games combined. The latter hasn’t allowed more than two runs in his last four outings — and only once in his last seven.

A talented and proven arm is a game-changer in the postseason, and with LSU stashing two, it makes it even more dangerous moving forward.

Tennessee: Down

Tennessee baseball

If this was the end of March, the conversations surrounding the Volunteers would be completely different. Tennessee was the top-ranked team in the country and were sizing up the 2025 Men’s College World Series trophy in hopes of going back-to-back.

Those discussions have quieted since then with the reigning national champions struggling throughout the second half of SEC play. They’ve lost four straight series and have fallen to 15-12 in conference play.

Granted, the Volunteers aren’t losing to run-of-the-mill-esque teams — three of the four losses have been to top-10 ranked opponents. But for Tennessee to go deep in the SEC and Ƶ tournaments, they will have beat the same teams they lost to.

Arkansas: Neutral

The last month and a half have been interesting, to say the least, for the Razorbacks.

Arkansas secured a statement win against top-ranked Texas to kick off May in dominating fashion, outscoring the Longhorns 28-9 behind record-breaking performances on the mound and consistency at the plate. If fans were wondering about the high-level talent in Fayetteville, the Razorbacks' sweep was the perfect example.

Outside of that victory, Arkansas has fallen off a ledge in comparison to its 11-1 start to SEC play. Texas is its only win since the start of April, losing to Georgia, unranked teams in Texas A&M and Florida and most recently LSU. The battle down in Baton Rouge was a tough pill to swallow for the Razorbacks, losing the series 2-1 and the series opener on a walk-off sac fly in the 10th inning.

The Razorbacks' last two series were against Texas and LSU, providing optimism for their final regular season matchup versus Tennessee before the conference tournament.

Texas: Slightly Down

For about 75% of the college baseball season, the Longhorns have been cruising down Sixth Street popping their collars with their heads held high — and for good reason. They won seven straight SEC series, five being sweeps and were 25-3 at home.

The list goes on and on in terms of things to brag about.

That sparkle in the Longhorns’ eyes has dimmed during the other 25%, though, losing consecutive series to Arkansas and unranked Florida. They are 1-5 against their last two SEC opponents and were outscored 42-17.

Of course, every team has its days. The Razorbacks went through the ringer a few weeks ago alongside other ranked foes. This could just be a faze for Texas.

However, the Longhorns still await junior outfielder Max Belyeu’s return from a thumb injury suffered in late March. They already lost their ace in senior left-hander Jared Spencer in April to a shoulder injury for the remainder of the season.

Auburn: Up

Auburn baseball

Amidst the SEC’s late season ebbs and flows, Auburn has provided some consistency in the chaos. In the last three weeks, they’ve dominated struggling teams like Mississippi State and South Carolina and walked into Lindsey Nelson Stadium to down Tennessee.

They scored a total of 46 runs in three games versus the Gamecocks, and most recently, the team has earned a spot in D1Baseball’s top-10 rankings — other outlets have them in the top five.

Auburn was swept by Texas in mid-April and Georgia at the end of March, but they’ve calmed the storm since. Everything is going in their direction currently, and a series win over Ole Miss doubles down on how scary this team can be.

Texas A&M: Down

The Aggies were on the up-and-up just a month ago, orchestrating a red-hot April with series wins over two top-five ranked teams entering the home stretch of conference play. And after downing LSU at the start of May, Texas A&M’s Ƶ tournament spot seemed solidified.

Those plans might’ve changed after last weekend’s blunder against Missouri. The Aggies took a step back, getting swept by a Mizzou team that entered the matchup 0-24 against SEC opponents.

Yes, 0-24.

The loss makes the Aggies' next series versus Georgia and potential conference tournament success more important than ever in terms of postseason hopes.
